2012 class/talk ideas

Discussions on anything related to the evolving idea of Saskatoon's first "makerspace". What is a makerspace to you? What should it be called? What's the charter?

Some ideas off the top of my head. What are you guys interested in attending and/or offering? Got any ideas that aren't listed?

* Intro to CNC (CAD, CAM, machine operation)
* Soldering
* Intro to programming
* Microcontrollers and embedded code
* Intro to electronics
* Casting/molding
* How to use tools
* Electronics topics (power control, servos, sensors, etc)
* Software topics (parsers, languages, kernel hacking, etc)
* Art stuff? (painting, photography, digital art, etc)
* How to sew?
* Cooking? (would have to be at someone's house)

I'd be interested in attending:
  • Intro to CNC
  • Casting/molding
  • How to use tools
  • Various electronics/software topics
I would be willing to help offer:
  • Soldering
  • Intro to programming
  • Microcontrollers and embedded code
  • Intro to electronics
  • Various electronics/software topics

Sounds like a good list of stuff already!

Oh, there's no reason these need to be limited to "making stuff" style talks. If someone wants to do a talk on international monetary policy or alternative shoe lacing techniques or something, feel free!

Ham radio?

There was talk of Ham radio a while back. How many people would be interested? I was going to contact Saskatoon Amatuer Radio Club and see if I can still join their January course. I could see if they would be interested in doing a evening or one day lesson for us.

I'd be in for this if the scheduling worked out for me, I've been meaning to get my license for far too many years. Being able to operate ham radio is an integral part of every mans zombie attack strategy.

lol, I was. I'm not sure if the license expires, but I haven't used it since I got it 15 years ago. I'd have to study up. But yes, I could help out with that.
