Decentralized dance party

Post by DigitalOSH » Sun Jan 16, 2011 3:59 pm

I don't know how many of you know what the Decentralized Dance Party is, but basically it is just a bunch of people following a leader who has an FM transmitter in their backpack. As a participant you bring your own radio (boombox) and tune in to the right frequency. I really like the idea, and they are coming in June. Here are a couple of things I want to make before the party, who wants to help me? Do you have any other suggestions?

1: Portable laser show flashlight

2: a BUNCH of LED throwies

They suggest parts at instructables ( http://www.instructables.com/id/LED-Throwies/#step1 ) but I've already found the magnets for WAY cheaper ( http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.13516 ) and I'm sure we can get a better deal on LEDs and batteries too.

Who's in?

I tried mass-producing Throwies this summer... i got about 6 made
We need to get very bright colors (non-diffused), and i made little pull-tabs so i can activate them right before throwing.

We can get small rare earth magnets from Lee Valley for cheap ($0.40 ea i think).

Lets do this.

My lasting legacy on campus will be a throwie that i stuck to the ceiling of the geology building. It will be there forevermore

So roughly how long will the battery last with one of these things?

You're right, i realized that after i posted :?

Battery life is kinda short,...but if we put a small resistor inline to limit the current we can make them last for longer...(ours had no resistor, and they lasted for about ~8hrs)
